Molbio Diagnostics showcases it groundbreaking Truelab and Prorad platforms at Medlab Africa

Lagos, 25th April 2024: Molbio, a leading player in point-of-care diagnostics showcased two of its flagship testing platforms - The Truelab Real Time quantitative micro-PCR system and The Prorad Atlas Ultraportable X-Ray system as part of Medlab Africa which was held on 22-24th April at the Landmark Centre in Lagos,Nigeria .

Molbio has been at the forefront of transforming healthcare practices by providing near-care diagnostic solutions using robust portable platforms. With an established network of distributors across Africa, Molbio seeks to reinforce its commitment towards rapid, accurate and affordable point of care testing within the continent's healthcare landscape. This will ensure that every patient gains access to high-quality healthcare facilitated by state-of-the-art technologies.

As per the World Health Organization (WHO), Tuberculosis ranked as the second most fatal infectious disease globally, with 33% of TB-related deaths transpiring in the African Region alone in 2022.Poor case detection has continued to remain a major global healthcare challenge, resulting in a huge burden to both the patient and society. Improved case detection, and access to accurate diagnostics and quality healthcare services are critical in ending the TB epidemic. Molbio’s compact, portable, battery-operated Truelab system seeks to bridge these gaps by revolutionising diagnostic testing providing sample results in an hour.

The Truelab Real Time quantitative micro-PCR system from Molbio brings PCR technology right to the point-of-care, at all laboratory and non-laboratory settings, primary centres, in the field, near patient, essentially at all levels of healthcare thereby decentralising and democratising access to molecular diagnostics. The system works on disease specific Truenat microchips for conducting a real time PCR. The sample preparation (extraction and purification) is done on a fully automated, cartridge based Trueprep AUTO sample prep device. The WHO approved device is infrastructure independent and provides a complete end to end solution for disease diagnosis. With proven ability to work even at Primary Health Centres and with wireless data transfer capability, this game changing technology brings in a paradigm shift to the global fight in control and management of devastating infectious diseases.

The Prorad Atlas Ultraportable X-ray system is an advanced solution designed for ultra-portability. With its Digital X-ray capability, incorporating AI-based interpretation for Tuberculosis and other respiratory diseases, result analysis becomes swift even in locations lacking trained personnel. This accessibility extends TB screening to active cases in patient settings, be it mobile or bedside. By coupling presumptive TB screening with confirmatory Truenat tests for MTB and DRTB in peripheral areas, early detection becomes a reality, thereby addressing the challenge of undiagnosed cases.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Mr. Sumit Mitra, President, Global Sales and Marketing, Molbio Diagnostics said “Patients often endure lengthy journeys to tertiary healthcare centres to provide samples for testing, followed by an agonising wait for test results and subsequent treatment initiation. At Molbio, our commitment lies in facilitating enhanced medicine, alleviating patient suffering, staying attuned to patient needs, and perpetually innovating to introduce new technologies for societal betterment. We stand steadfastly with governments all over the world in ensuring that we can achieve our goal of a TB free world by 2030.”
